National Mall Packed dirt and gravel. 5 mile loop around Tidal Basin, Capital and Lincoln Memorial. Flat, scenic. Can cross 14th Street Bridge and Memorial Bridge for additional mileage.
Rock Creek Park Tree lined, mostly flat, 1,750 acre park. Cuts through center of D.C. from the mall, by the Kennedy Center, north into Maryland. Trail running, available, but uneven. Paved bicycle/running path. Map is available at Rock Creek Park Headquarters at 5000 Glover Road. 202.282.1063.
C&O Canal Starts at Georgetown. Runs along C&O Canal and Potomac River. Goes to Cumberland Maryland, 185 miles away.
