Redhat Update Servers To Linux Dudes: Pay Or Leave

With narry an available FTP site in sight...Redhat has sent out message after message this week about patches to its distros. Each day and each night it is the same thing. All free servers are shut down - if you want the fix you'll have to pay up and get premium service. Nice to see that Redhat is popular - but now everyone is busy downloading RH9 and no one can update their buggy and holey systems for free.

Is this the advantage of free and open source systems? Is free software like free bear? Should I go with a bankrupt French company? Should I return to a "real" operating system like Windoze or OSX. (And why the would anyone want to run Linux on this system anyway - it has the real thing in there BSD Unix?? Xwindows is all you should need). Or should I just rant on here.... I'm already running all of these OS anyway .... Now when can I get all those patches you Redhat Bozos? And why hasn't slashdot mentioned this problem yet??

For many years they misled consumers and tried to convince themselves that there was no relationship between lung cancer, heart disease, many other ailments, and tobacco. Hey guys wake up and smell the roses, coffee, weed, or whatever. Try growing something else - maybe tomatoes - or peanuts - or dig for oil.

Linux Increasingly Important

It is obvious that Linux is playing an increasingly important role in the work arena, and in the homes of those who are having fun with their computers.

The NSA (National Security Agency) has been working on a more secure open source kernal that they have allowed to be downloaded from their site. This Secure Linux (SE-Linux) is worth looking at and the concepts are ones often mentioned before, but are now being implemented in code.

An old (2001) article on IBM's site reviews this project which is ongoing.

Blogger Editor Wars?

On Wednesday last week at a meeting unrelated to weblogs, a Microsoft exec let it slip that the next version of FrontPage does blogging.

Dave wants to support the 1.0 version of the Blogger API for the forseeable future.

Now as far as local struggles go. I have figured out that I can substitute different Blogger numbers in the manila interface to do different Blogger blog and to avoid writing in my Radio blog I can just post to a junk category and not the "home" blog or other categories.
